At Optix Family Eye Care we are committed to providing the best quality of care. Often, sight-threatening diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy have no noticeable signs or symptoms in their early stages. By the time symptoms appear, the eyes have been damaged. That’s why eye exams that include a retinal evaluation are vitally important. Our practice now uses the iVue® SD-OCT retinal scan, also known as an iWellness exam, as part of our comprehensive eye exams.
What is an iWellness Exam?
An iWellness exam is a quick and easy scan that uses a laser to scan the retina. It generates a high-definition cross-section image, similar to an MRI. With these images our eye doctors are able to see the parts of the eye in great detail and detect diseases if present.
What Types of Disease Does iWellness Screen For?
While many diseases can be detected by the iWellness Exam, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy are the three most common.
- Glaucoma is an eye disease in which the nerve fiber of the retina is damaged by elevated pressure within the eye.
- Macular Degeneration – with this eye disease the center of the retina (macula) is damaged by the surrounding blood vessels.
- Diabetic Retinopathy – this diabetes-related eye disease damages the blood vessels of the retina
Who Should Get an iWellness Exam?
Eye diseases can strike at any age. With an iWellness exam, many ocular diseases can be detected. The sooner the diagnosis, the sooner treatment can begin. If you are interested in getting an iWellness exam please consult with your eye doctor.
Is iWellness Covered By Insurance?
Most vision insurance plans don’t yet cover the $34 co-pay. This charge will be added to the cost of your visit.
At Optix Family Eye Care, the exam is an integral part of your testing. Our technician will perform the iWellness scan, and your doctor will discuss the findings with you during your examination. We welcome any questions you may have about an iWellness exam.
Why Should I Get an iWellness Scan?
The iWellness exam elevates the level of care we can provide by providing views of your eye that aren’t viewable with current techniques.
Having an iWellness exam allows your eye doctor to have a baseline to reference, allowing them to detect early changes that may not be otherwise seen until significant disease progression occurs. As with most eye diseases, early detection is critical to preventing or halting vision loss. The eye doctors at our office feel the iWellness Exam is important in providing the best possible care, which is why we have invested in it.
At Optix Family Eye Care we care about you and your health. By conducting the iWellness exam, our optometrists can make sure your vision is at its best, helping you enjoy life to the fullest.
